Andrey Lebedev is a conductor of the Novaya Opera Theatre, guest conductor of the Bolshoy Theatre, conductor of the Symphony Orchestra of the Gnessins Russian Academy of Music.
In 2016, he won the Golden Mask National Theatrical Award in the Best Conductor category(Gounod's Romeo et Juliette).
He graduated from the Rimsky-Korsakov State Conservatory in St. Petersburg (Prof. Kudryavtseva’s and Prof. Martynov’s class).
In 2000 to 2002, he worked as a conductor at the Pushkin Opera and Ballet Theatre of Nizhny Novgorod and as a guest conductor of the Academic Symphony Orchestra of the Nizhny Novgorod Philharmonic. In 2002 to 2004, he was a conductor of the Glinka Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre in Chelyabinsk. In 2007 to 2013, he was the chief conductor of the Sochi Municipal Symphony Orchestra. In 2004, he became a conductor of the Leonard Gatov Musical Theatre Premiera in Krasnodar, and in 2012–2014 he was its artistic director and chief conductor. In 20017 to 2022, he worked as a conductor at the Galina Vishnevskaya Opera Centre.
In 2006, Andrey Lebedev joined the Novaya Opera as a guest conductor, and since 2013, he has been a permanent conductor of the theatre.
He has collaborated with leading Russian and foreign music theatres and orchestras, including the State Academic Symphony Orchestra of Russia “Evgeny Svetlanov”, the Novaya Rossia State Symphony Orchestra (Moscow),the Tchaikovsky State Academic Symphony Orchestra (Moscow),the Shostakovich St. Petersburg Academic Symphony Orchestra, the Russian Philharmonic Orchestra (Moscow),the State Philharmonic Orchestra of the Republic of Tatarstan, the Gunpo Prime Philharmonic Orchestra (South Korea),The China Philharmonic Orchestra (Beijing),the Latvian Festival Orchestra, the Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra (the Czech Republic) and many others.
He has conducted at the Teatro Massimo Bellini (Catania, Italy),the Mikhailovsky Theatre (St. Petersburg),the Opera and Ballet Theatre of the Rimsky-Korsakov State Conservatory in St. Petersburg, in the opera houses of Ufa, Samara, Rostov-on the-Don and others.
Andrey Lebedev has performed with famous instrumentalists, such as Knyazev, Matsuev, Ghindin, Ovchinnikov, Trostyansky, Diev, Lidsky, and leading vocalists, such as Vedernikov, Kazarnovskaya, Gerzmava, Abdrazakov, as well as with Bayreuther Festspiele stars Pankratova and Schager.
He has over 50 operatic and ballet productions in his repertoire, including operas that are seldom performed in Russia such as Donizetti’s Maria Stuarda, Gounod’s Romeo et Juliette, Humperdinck's The Gingerbread House, or Hänsel und Gretel, Glinka’s Ruslan and Lyudmila and A life for the Tsar, Weinberg's The Passenger, Shostakovich's The Gamblers, and others.
In 2017, he conducted the Russian premiere of Igor Stravinsky’s oratorio Lamentationes Jeremiae Prophetae in the concert dedicated to the 135th anniversary of the composer’s birth. The programme also included the cantata Babel and Requiem Canticles.
Andrey Lebedev is a permanent participant in many music festivals such as the Epiphany Festival at Novaya Opera, Vasily Ladyuk’s Opera Live, Veronika Dzhioeva’s Opera Space, the Rostropovich International Festival in Orenburg, the festival Irina Arkhipova Presents in Chelyabinsk, the Northern Lights Music Festival in Tromsø (Norway).
In 2013, Andrey Lebedev took part in the Novaya Opera’s tour in Australia with the opera mix OperaMania shown in seven cities. In 2016, he conducted Puccini’s La Bohème during the theatre’s tour in Ireland (Bord Gáis Energy Theatre in Dublin). In the same year he participated in the theatre’s tour in Austria (Brucknerhaus Concert Hall, Linz),conducting Eugene Onegin and a gala-concert of works by Russian composers.
In 2016 and 2017, he conducted the gala concerts of world opera stars at the Russian Ball in London held under the auspices of Princess Olga Romanova. In collaboration with the Vienna Ball Moscow project he conducted gala concerts in the Czech Republic, Latvia, China and Russia.
In 2019, Andrey Lebedev took part in the gala concert at the First Russian Ball in China, which was attended by Russian Ambassador to China Andrey Denisov as the guest of honour.
In December 2019, at the invitation of the Korean company POSCO and the Kim Cha-Kyung Opera Company, he performed in Seoul in the Lotte Concert Hall (South Korea). The programme of the With POSCO Opera Gala Concert included pieces by Donizetti, Verdi, Puccini, and music by Korean composers.
In 2018, 2019, 2020, he conducted the gala concerts of the prize-winners at the Award Ceremony of the Casta Diva Russian Opera Award.
Andrey Lebedev was a jury member of the Golden Mask Russian National Theatrical Award in the 2016–2017 season.
