Georges Bizet's early opera Les pêcheurs de perles has been treated by Roman Viktyuk as a "modern drama". The Indian legend about the pearl fisher Nadir's and the chieftain Zurga's love for the beautiful priestess Leila is made the subject of a film, which is being shot before an audience. The action is set in Paris, which means that a love affair is in store: Leila, Nadir and Zurga meet on the shooting stage…

In Viktyuk's production, the tragic Indian legend about two young men (Nadir and Zurga) and the young priestess Leila has turned into an unusual, symbolic musical performance.
