Sergey Murzaev

He graduated from the Chelyabinsk Music College (1987, German Gavrilov’s class) and the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory (1991, Professor Skunchenko’s class). In the same year he was enrolled in the trainee group of the Bolshoi Theatre. In 1992 to 200, he was a soloist of the theatre.

At the Bolshoi Theatre he performed as Matchmaker in Dargomyzhsky’s Rusalka, Prince Igor in Borodin’s Prince Igor, Andrey Shchelkalov in Mussorgsky’sBoris Godunov, Shaklovity in Mussorgsky’s Khovanshchina, Lionel in Tchaikovsky’s The Maid of Orleans, Eugene Onegin in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, Yeletsky, Tomsky in Tchaikovsky’s The Queen of Spades, Robert, Ibn-Hakia in Tchaikovsky’s Iolanta, Grigory Gryaznoy in Rimsky-Korsakov’s The Tsar’s Bride, Lanciotto Malatesta in Rachmaninoff’s Francesca da Rimini, Uteshitelny in Shostakovich’s The Gamblers, Macbeth in Verdi’s Macbeth, Count di Luna in Verdi’s Il trovatore, Giorgio Germont in Verdi’s La Traviata, Renato in Verdi’s Un ballo in maschera, Don Carlo in Verdi’s La forza del destino, Amonasro in Verdi’s Aida, Silvio in Leoncavallo’s I Pagliacci, Marcello in Puccini’s La Boheme, Scarpia in Puccini’s Tosca.

Since 2000,he has been a guest soloist of the Mariinsky Theatre, where he has sung in the productions of Borodin’s Prince Igor, Verdi’s MacbethUn ballo in mascheraSimon BoccanegraOtelloAida and performed the leading baritone parts in Mussorgsky’s Khovanshchina, Rachmaninoff’s Francesca da Rimini, Puccini’s Tosca. His repertoire also includes Barnaba in Ponchielli’s La Gioconda, Tonio in Leoncavallo’s I Pagliacci, Rangoni in Mussorgsky’s Boris Godunov, Alfio in Mascagni’s Cavalleria rusticana, Carlo Gérard in Giordano’s Andrea Chénier.

Since 2017, Sergey Murzaev has been a soloist of the Novaya Opera Theatre.

The singer appeared at the Metropolitan Opera, Carnegie Hall (New York),La Scala (Milan),the Royal Opera Covent Garden (London),and the Bastille Opera House (Paris).

He has toured in Austria, Germany, the USA, Brazil, Chile, Portugal, China, Japan, Korea, Spain, Luxembourg, Israel, Italy, the Netherlands, Finland, France and Russia, and participated in numerous international opera and theatre festivals.

  • Prize-winner of the International Competition I Cestelli  (2nd prize, Italy, 1995)
  • Prize-winner of the Luciano Pavarotti International Vocal Competition (1st prize, Philadelphia, 1992)
  • Prize-winner of the Mario del Monaco International Vocal Competition (2nd prize, Sicily, 1992)
  • Prize-winner of the 14th Glinka All-Union Voice Contest (1st prize, Almaty, 1991)
