He graduated from the Chelyabinsk Music College (1987, German Gavrilov’s class) and the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory (1991, Professor Skunchenko’s class). In the same year he was enrolled in the trainee group of the Bolshoi Theatre. In 1992 to 200, he was a soloist of the theatre.

Since 2000,he has been a guest soloist of the Mariinsky Theatre, where he has sung in the productions of Borodin’s Prince Igor, Verdi’s Macbeth, Un ballo in maschera, Simon Boccanegra, Otello, Aida and performed the leading baritone parts in Mussorgsky’s Khovanshchina, Rachmaninoff’s Francesca da Rimini, Puccini’s Tosca. His repertoire also includes Barnaba in Ponchielli’s La Gioconda, Tonio in Leoncavallo’s I Pagliacci, Rangoni in Mussorgsky’s Boris Godunov, Alfio in Mascagni’s Cavalleria rusticana, Carlo Gérard in Giordano’s Andrea Chénier.
Since 2017, Sergey Murzaev has been a soloist of the Novaya Opera Theatre.
The singer appeared at the Metropolitan Opera, Carnegie Hall (New York),La Scala (Milan),the Royal Opera Covent Garden (London),and the Bastille Opera House (Paris).
He has toured in Austria, Germany, the USA, Brazil, Chile, Portugal, China, Japan, Korea, Spain, Luxembourg, Israel, Italy, the Netherlands, Finland, France and Russia, and participated in numerous international opera and theatre festivals.
