Antoinette Dennefeld


Born in Strasbourg, France, Antoinette Dennefeld’s artistic education began at a very young age, and included piano, theatre and dance. After two years at the University Marc Bloch in Strasbourg, she enters the Haute Ecole de Musique in Lausanne in 2006. During her studies, she participated in masterclasses with Dale Dusing, Christa Ludwig and Luisa Catsellani. She received the Mosetti grant two times (2008–2010) and the Richard Wagner scholarship (2009).

She graduated from the Haute Ecole de Musique in Lausanne and received her Master of Music (Voice) in 2011 with high honors. For her excellent results, she received the Max Jost Award, Friends of the OSR Award and the Paderewski Prize. Teh same year, she won the Grand Prix at the International Singing Competition of Marmande and the Third Prize and Public’s Choice at the International Singing Competition of Geneva. She also recieved in 2011 an advanced career development grant from the Leenaards Foundation.

In concert, she has performed the solo parts in Vivaldi’s Gloria, Rossini’s Stabat Mater, Mozart’s Requiem and Haendel’s Dixit Dominus both in Switzerland and France. In Lausanne, she sang the alto solo part in Bach’s St. John Passion with Ton Koopmann and the soprano solo in Stravinsky’s Pulcinella with the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne. With the Sinfonietta of Lausanne, she performed the mezzo role in Prokofiev’s Alexander Nevsky and has also sung Lieder from Mahler’s Des Knaben Wunderhorn. Since 2009, she has been performing in recitals with the pianist Lucas Buclin as Duo Almage. In 2012, they recorded pieces by Poulenc, Aboulker, Wolf, Britten and Strauss for the Société Vaudoise des Amis de l’Orchestre de la Suisse Romande.

In opera, she has performed Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni at the Théâtre du Jorat in Mézières and at the Opéra de Lyon, Contessa di Ceprano and Giovanna in Rigoletto at the Avenches Opera Festival, Charmion in Massenet’s Cléopatre at the Opera of Marseille and Dorabella in Così fan tutte at the Opera Tenerife. With the Opera of Lausanne, the Second Lady in Die Zauberflöte, the Second Witch in Dido and Aeneas, Zulma in L’italiana in Algeri, Stéphano in Roméo et Juliette, Venus in Orphée aux Enfers, Fanny Elssler in Honegger and Ibert’s L’Aiglon and Louise in Varney’s Les Mousquetaires au Couvent. At the National Opera of Lyon she has been invited as La chatte / L’écureuil in Ravel’s L’Enfant et les Sortilèges and most recently as Isolier in Rossini’s Le Comte Ory.

Recently she was Rosina (Il Barbiere di Siviglia) for her Italian debut at the Maggio Fiorentino as well as in Firenze, Oreste (La Belle Hélène) in Avignon and Annio (La Clemenza di Tito) in Montpellier, Cunégonde in the new production of Offenbach’s Le Roi Carotte staged by Laurent Pelly at the Opéra de Lyon. She also sang Werther (Charlotte) in Tenerife, La Traviata, Carmen, Cavalleria Rusticana, La Clemenza di Tito and Yvonne, princesse de Bourgogne at the Paris National Opera, Lakmé with the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, Le Nozze di Figaro in Marseille and in Bologna, Don Giovanni in Bologna, Così fan tutte in Lausanne, Le Domino Noir in Liège and at the Opéra Comique, Carmen in Dijon for her debuts in the title role, Maître Peronilla by Offenbach at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, Shéhérazade with the Orchestre Régional Bayonne Côte, Cendrillon (the Prince) at the Opéra National de Lorraine, L’Heure espagnole with Opera Lombardia, La Clemenza di Tito (Annio) in Rouen, Falstaff (Meg) at the Aix-en-Provence Festival and at the Opéra National de Lyon.

Among her future projects, Carmen (title role) at the Opéra national du Rhin, Werther (Charlotte) in Marseille, La Périchole (title role) at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées and in Toulon, Pelléas et Mélisande (Mélisande) with the Orchestre National de France and Idomeneo (Idamante) in Nancy.
