Favourite Arias

Favourite Arias

Concert of the theatre's soloists

Piano: Dmitry Sibirtsev, Anna Sitnikova

Stage Director: Mikhail Anestratenko

The aria is one of the most important and powerful opera numbers. It is often the aria of one or another character that determines the success of a performance, its repertoire life and appreciation by spectators. Norma’s cavatina Casta diva from Vincenzo Bellini’s Norma, the Duke of Mantua's canzone La donna è mobile from Giuseppe Verdi’s Rigoletto, Figaro’s cavatina Largo al factotum della città from Gioachino Rossini’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia are the signatures of the operas. The programme The Favourite Arias comprises arias and scenes from operas by Russian and foreign composers.

In a performance the aria becomes the high point and the generalization of the scenic action; the music element is supplemented with mise-en-scenes, costumes and greasepaint. In a concert the aria is a self-contained piece; a singer lives through it without any additional means, and here the artiste’s personality, charisma and energetics come to the fore.

Of particular importance in the concert programme is the part of the piano. Its sound is as close to the orchestra as possible: the pianist accents the differentiation of voices, instrumental solos and other specialties of the score. The programme The Favourite Arias is prepared by the theatre's director and pianist Dmitry Sibirtsev and accompanist Anna Sitnikova.
